Hot gin taking over the mulled wine trend

14 February 2018Latest news & trends in food & drink

Mulled wine is for Christmas and it seems that hot gin is here to stay. The UK bought a record 47 million bottles of gin in 2017. There are two main reasons for its popularity:

    1. Add a bit of spice to keep you warm in the festive winter months but a warm gin with apple or orange juice is the perfect tipple for summer evenings outdoors

    2. It is easy to make at home. Heat any gin gradually in a saucepan on the hob or add hot water directly but make sure you don’t burn it or boil it. Excessive heating (anything over roughly 78 degrees) will evaporate the alcohol meaning you’ll be left with something nearing a mocktail.
