Alcoholic tea to replace the gin trend in London?

17 May 2018Latest news & trends in food & drink

Earl Grey-based liqueurs and tea cocktails are all the rage at London bars and boutiques. Some even think this new enthusiasm could possibly threaten – or replace – the English love affair with gin.

A quiet revolution is underway in England. It turns out these renowned lovers of gin and other spirits have an open mind when it comes to trying new things.

Indeed, tea – the world’s second most consumed drink after water – is enjoying a newfound popularity at cocktail bars and some brands are going so far as to develop liqueurs made from the aromatic brew.

Take for example Noveltea, a brand launched in 2017 that brings together gin and cold Earl Grey.

The result looks promising, as over 10,000 bottles have already been sold and Noveltea was honoured as “Gin of the Month” in March 2018 by John Lewis.
